BLUE Medi Spa

14622 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks (888) 955-BLUE

The largest spa of its kind in the country, Blue was founded by Ronda Hawara in 1999 under the name Light Speed Laser.  It still welcomes patrons through its original old movie theatre façade on bustling Ventura Boulevard and into a 6,000 square feet retro haven.  A favorite of celebs like Virginia Madsen and Shannon Elizabeth, Blue has also been touted by the likes of Extra, Access Hollywood and Queer Eye.

The friendly staff and Jetsons-like décor not only fly in the face of the ubiquitous Zen-like atmosphere that other spas are compelled to provide, but establishes an instantly gregarious and refreshing space in which the approach to beauty and rejuvenation are made less intimidating.  The menu of services is staggering and include everything from sophisticated laser skin services to customized facials, scrubs, face & body lifts and other tempting treats that you may never even have heard of.   Whether it’s an ipl facial, tattoo removal, botox or a straightforward massage you seek, Blue is a one-stop shop for beauty and more than equipped to handle your every need.

Aesthetician Stacey Young treated us to a customized Microderm with Facial using a DiamondTome Wand with natural diamond chips to resurface the skin while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner.  In just one treatment, skin texture is smoothed out and healthy new skin cell growth is promoted.  With repeated sessions, the benefits are endless; you can expect to repair sun-damaged skin, age spots, and reduce acne scarring and fine lines. Marilyn once crooned that ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ and DiamondTome takes that timeless bond so much further.

This treatment alone is enough to induce elation and make a loyal client out of you but the folks at Blue are not done with you just yet.  After diamonds have refined your skin, Stacey applies a succession of rejuvenating steps including an enzyme mask with steam, virtually pain-free extractions, a volcanic mud mask and a shoulder and neck massage.

It’s only as you leave the premise, lighter on your step and ready to face the world again, that you realize that the décor, which to some may even seem incongruous from the patina to the interior, is a metaphor for your experience.  You’ve spent time away from the tensions of the city, as if on a distant planet and disembark at the marquee, feeling like a star.
