Fifth Annual Festival of the South Asian Diaspora

July 8-11

 

ARTWALLAH 2004 is a four-day festival of the South Asian Diaspora, held July 8-11 at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater and Art Park in Hollywood. 

 

Get ready for a powerful weekend of dance, film, literature, music, theater, visual arts, spoken word and interactive panels and workshops

 

The festival will kick-off with a live outdoor concert under the stars on Thursday, July 8.  Friday night begins with a Visual Arts Galllery Reception with live DJ music from 6-8pm to mingle with the artists (free to the public).

 

ArtWallah's acclaimed Evening Show spotlights artists across all art forms (Friday/Saturday/Sunday Evenings).  Saturday and Sunday daytime programs feature film screenings, theater, comedy, outdoor concerts, literature and visual arts gallery tours.  The courtyard will be filled with entertainment, South Asian cuisine and a strong community vibe.

HAIRSPRAY Broadway’s new musical comedy phenomenon starring Marissa Jaret Winokur and Bruce Vilanch has won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and is showing for a limited engagement.  Set in the 50’s, Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and even bigger heart who wins a spot on the local TV dance program and is transformed into a celebrity.  Based on the film written and directed by John Waters.
