MACY'S PASSPORT

Macy's Passport 25th AnniversaryMarking its 25th year, Macy’s Passport has become one of the most powerful and best known fundraisers toward the fight against HIV/AIDS. This year Passport will have raised more than $25 million dollars for the HIV/AIDS organizations that serve our local communities.

Although it all began in 1980, it was Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s appearance in 1987 that elevated the show to a whole new level. The following year, Macy’s turned Passport into a benefit for six Bay Area AIDS agencies, thereby becoming one of the first companies in the United States to recognize the need for AIDS fundraising and to shine a light on the intensity of the pandemic.

Throughout the years sponsors, world-renowned designers and celebrities such as Liza Minnelli, Tina Turner, Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford, to name just a few, have lent their names and talents to raising both awareness and much needed funds to continue this fight. In the mid nineties, with its reputation spreading further than the Bay Area, the show became an annual event in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.

MATTER OF HONOR In 1877, Cadet Johnson Whittaker should have been the second African-American man to graduate from West Point. Some say he was phased out because of his race - others say that he simply was not up to snuff.

Broadway playwright Michael J. Chepiga turns his pen to keen and dramatic effect in this moving story of a cadet's struggle for truth, honor and redemption.
