IMITATION OF CHRIST
They made a bold statement back in 2000 when the
collection of retooled vintage clothing was showcased at
a New York funeral parlor. This year, Tara Subkoff
brought gothic glitz to L.A. anti-establishment,
rebellious, sexy, feminine but with a definite edge. We
were treated to a grown-up incarnation of the designer
with an emphasis on beaded dresses, leather, and of
course the namesake cross. Pale, somber models with jet
black lips catwalked around skulls and bits of skeleton
on the stage while chatting on their cell phones. |

THRIVE Christened "Flowers in the Garden of
Consciousness," the collection was injected with rocker
chic sensibility. Diaphanous and layered, Thrive
combined romanticism with modernism and included fabrics
like silk chiffon, satin, wool-cashmere gabardine, lace
and Japanese woolens in colors of taupe, blush, brown,
blue, gray and black. Riding crops dangled from the
outfits adding a signature touch and edge to even what
might risk appearing boringly traditional. |

BEBE David Cardona
abandoned the monochromatic palette for Spring 2007's
collection and showed spunk with a military look with
shiny black, army green, and deep orange on models with
platinum bobs and tough, kick-ass makeup that brought
sci-fi movies to mind. Skin tight pants, latex body
suites, bustiers, trench coats and full-length zipped
dresses, the collection was a complete hit and had us
enthralled to the very end.

Best of BUENOS
AIRES
Grand and glamorous, Buenos Aires is
known for Eva Peron's style, Maradona, its tango and beef. Argentina
enjoys summer in December and has an exchange rate and a sizzling
nightlife that makes it a compelling vacation hot-spot. Built on a
grand scale with wide boulevards and stylish architecture, the city
makes you feel young, beautiful and vibrant. Here are our picks of
what the locals treasure and the essential pit stops once you're
done with the tourist hangouts.
Freddo: The caramelized milk jam
called dulce-de-leche is so heavenly that it's worth every calorie.
Its creamy texture and luscious sweet consistency makes it versatile
for breakfast as a spread on medialunas (croissants) and as
desserts. It's common to see Porteños (locals) sitting on benches,
passionately engrossed in a sugared cone topped with dulce-de-leche
ice cream. In Buenos Aires, ice cream is home delivered, much like
pizza, by a uniformed delivery person, on a motor scooter. Freddo,
Persicco and Un Altra Volta are Buenos Aires's three famous ice
cream chains.
Casa Lopez: Leather and beef are
particularly easy to find, so steakhouses and leather products are
relatively cheap. Casa Lopez is the best marroquinera (leather-goods
shop) in Buenos Aires, both because of its quality and selection of
products. Their range consists of leather, fur and suede items,
mostly handbags, luggage and wallets. They also carry men's
carpincho coats, belts and a limited, yet impressive collection of
leather jackets. Classily designed, locally produced and
well-priced, Casa Lopez is satisfying the leather needs of luxe-loving
Porteños. A VAT refund is applicable, increasing the value of the
purchases. Two locations: Marcelo T. de Alvear 640, +54 (0)11 4311
3044 and at Patio Bullich. Website:

Gabrielle Capucci: A colorful
and surprising boutique located in the quiet neighborhood of
Recoleta. The fantastic carpentry, bizarre use of colors and an
enchanting window display lures you into the store. Inside Geraldine
Koncar designs and executes one-of-a- kind sandals, T-shirts, coats,
wallets, bags and bikinis. The store is named after her mother and a
quick look tells you that the designer has a strong sense of
creative individuality that is incorporated into her entire product
range. Hats, jewelry, dresses and even small furniture carry an
original mix of colors, antique fabrics, lace and fancy motifs. On
moonlit nights, things in the boutique change places mysteriously.
Gabrielle Capucci reminds us of Alice in Wonderland, and is BAs
well-kept secret treasure. Located at Av. Alvear 1477, +54 (0) 4815
3635.
Jangada Restaurant: Palermo
Viejo is dotted with hip night-life and sensual restaurants that are
tucked away in tree-lined alleys, surrounded by old residential
neighborhood and boutiques selling chic, young and sensual clothing.
Sitting unassumingly in Palermo is Jangada, known for its paco a
beefy fish, related to the deadly piranha. Paco can grow up to 55
pounds and suitably referred to as "el lechon del rio" or suckling
pig of the river. The paco is served as a filet on a single plate,
so large that it covers the width of an entire table. At Jangada,
the surf tops the turf, and is grilled to perfection, delicately
flavored and delightfully flaky. All you have to do is to beat your
dinner partner to a larger portion. Located at Honduras 5799;
54-11-4777-4193.

WHITE PARTY Unleashed!
The ultimate Spring Break getaway for gay men and their adorers
unleashed in Palm Springs over Easter Weekend thanks to uber-Producer
Jeffrey Sanker with three days and nights of legendary parties and
diva performances at the 18th White Party. This year's extravaganza
turned the Palm Spring Convention Center into a Mayan Temple of
Sound where DJs Brett Henrichsen and Offer Nissim (Tel Aviv) were
joined by R&B artist Kelis. The insanely popular T-Dance at the
White Party Park was presided over by DJ Manny Lehman, performer
Jody Watley and the world's tallest traveling Ferris Wheel. An
estimated 30,000 men descended on the sleepy desert haven and next
year's event is expected to surpass even that number as it breaks
with tradition and moves away from the Easter weekend to April
18th-21st, 2008.
